Chloe Grae Champion

World, meet Chloe Grae!

We are happy and proud parents, and big sister Nynka is very curious about her new baby sister.

The reason behind the name Chloe is just that we loved it. The same as how Nynka got her first name 😊

Chloe is a Spring time name symbolizing new growth: “young green shoot”.

Grae is after my mem, Grietje. Just like how Nynka got her middle name after Cam’s mom (Lynn). Grietje’s that leave the province of Fryslan will often go by Gree (English people: this is pronounced as grey) . Since in English this Dutch spelling would cause mispronunciation (again... just like how Nynka ended up with an a at the end instead of the Dutch way: e at the end) we changed the spelling from Gree to Grae. The spelling Gray or Grey would be masculine. Grae is feminine :)

Baby registry: We really don't need anything, since she's our second. And people have already done so much for us by providing meals 💖 But I do get the question "I want to get her something, what can I get her?" So here is a little list of things we could use: https://www.amazon.ca/baby-reg/baukje-groothof-april-2021-cochrane/3PYJKE316WWWK

 Chloe and Nynka’s crazy week

What a week! Cam getting sick and hence having a Covid scare right before the scheduled c section date and almost not being able to attend.

Nynka getting croup the night of the day Chloe was born, which made Cam have to call 911 in the middle of the night. Then two days after being home from the first two days in the hospital, Chloe stopped eating and (in turn) peeing for two whole days so we had to rush to the children’s hospital, where we spent two nights. Home now since Monday April 20th and she’s now eating from bottles of pumped breast milk, with a plan of hopefully returning to breastfeeding once she gets bigger and stronger.

There are no clear answers to why she stopped eating those two days (not breastfeeding nor bottle feeding) because all of the potential reasons have been ruled out and doctor and lactation consultant confirmed that we were doing everything right and tried every single trick in the book.

So they think it was a combination of being a csection baby (not getting all the natural stimuli that a natural born baby gets through birth), jaundice and her demeanour.

Either way, she is taking the bottle now, still latching well at the breast like always (still just not actively eating) and we are going home with a plan to breastfeed/bottle feed and will be going to a lactation consultant to pave a way to the best possible options for us 😊🙏🙌

Nynka is as good as all better now and recovered from her croup by getting some medications for it.

Insanely thankful for all the people who reached out, offered- and helped out! No questions or hesitations, just jumped into immediate support mode! Your actions and kind, supportive and encouraging words made such a difference  💖✨
